Six teams from Scarborough Gymnastics Academy travelled to Newcastle to compete in the Newcastle Open Team Gym Championships 2009. The weekend was a big success for SGA and everybody had a really fun weekend.
In the primary regional championships the Scarborough Twinkles were placed a fantastic 3rd place overall. The team were up against tough competition from eight other teams but managed to perform excellently in their first team competition.
The Scarborough Sparkles Primary team were placed 4th overall in the primary National level championships. The team were experimenting with new moves and combinations so although they were not placed in the top three teams they did exceptionally well, rising to the challenge.
The Scarborough All Stars were placed 2nd overall in the Junior National championships which was a very good achievement as the team had been working hard on new skills in the run up to the competition. The team performed with great team ethic and were really supportive of one another’s achievements
Scarborough had two teams in the Junior Regional level, both teams competed with first-class team work and confidence. The Scarborough Stars were placed 1st overall after a consistent competition and their increased tarrif was displayed in their excellent team score. This is the first time this team has won the title and was a fantastic achievement for the team. Well done to Team Scarborough who were not far behind the Stars, placing a brilliant 2nd overall in their first competition.
The Scarborough Seniors were placed 3rd overall in the Senior National championships which was a great achievement for this age group. The highlight of the team’s competition was a come back performance from Scarborough Gymnastics Academy’s Coach Nikii Walker who performed some excellent tumbles for the team & really enjoyed competing again!!!
Team Coach Evy Walker said “Competing at such a high level, is something for everyone to be proud of, the results from this competition are fantastic. The gymnasts have all trained hard this year (some gymnasts training up to 6 days per week) and members of all the teams have all really improved. Well done to everyone who took part, everyone at the club are really proud of all the teams successes”
